To Do Tonight – 6/1

Engage/NEA Writers Event, 2 p.m.

You think you have what it takes to be a writer? Too bad you're so old. Luckily age is just a number to the folks at Engage, a nationally recognized nonprofit leader in the field of
creativity and aging. They're hosting a National Endowment for the Arts today where writers and artists will offer presentations to low-income seniors
living in affordable senior apartment communities in Fountain Valley
and Buena Park.

Founders Village Senior Center, 17967 Bushard Street, Fountain Valley, CA

Karaoke Madness, 9 p.m.

Are you one of those spotlight-seekers who dream of national fame,
practice Britney's choreography and set your DVR to record American
Idol every week? There's nothing more thrilling than the idea of
standing on stage and belting it out to an adoring audience? Well, it's
quite probable that karaoke will be the closest you ever come those
dreams of stardom. Sorry. But at least there are institutions like
Hogue Barmichaels that take this popular passtime to the next level.
You'll find no tiny rooms here, but instead a full stage, wireless
microphones and best of all: bright, dazzling spotlights!

Hogue Barmichael's, 3950 Campus Dr., Newport Beach, CA; 949-261-627

Hospitality Industry Appreciation Days, 4:30 p.m.

So you work at a restaurant. With all of those long night shifts and thankless days, it's nice to know that there are other restaurants out there that want to cut you a break. The Alley Restaurant is one of them. Half-off all food (excluding alcohol) until 10 p.m.
