The New Limb Weighs in On Their June Detroit Bar Residency

From time to time, we like to give local bands an opportunity to speak for themselves here on Heard Mentality. Dan Perez, guitarist extraordinaire for Costa Mesa's The New Limb (pictured)–playing every Monday this month at Detroit Bar–has taken this opportunity. To the fullest, really. Check out his thoughts, on, uh, stuff, after the jump.

Dear June,
In the past you and I have seen seen eye to eye on many levels. We've agreed that you are a month where I can make a subtle transition into idleness. For 17 of my 24 years you were a month of transitions, bringing me feelings of both commencement and closure. But this year you're different. Maybe you've changed, maybe I've changed. Maybe I don't want to talk about it. Regardless, something is different. I've never met so many people. I've never been so denuded of sleep. You've never felt so long.* As you know this month I'm playing at Detroit Bar every Monday. My band-mates and I are extremely grateful that you would let us play with you.** According to my calculator you only get to see 8.3% of every year, and that's kind of how I feel right now. I can't really remember what last month was like, and I'm not looking forward to how next month is going to occupy my time. This month the music has been fun, the free drinks have been cool, and the people have been great. The most refreshing part about you though, thus far, has been the consistency. I know that when I get home from work every Monday I only need to do two things. Change my clothes, pack the trailer and play some music. And I am totally OK with that. I know this letter may seem a little more dramatic than my others and a little less substantial. But you've never really cared for substance, and right now neither do I.
lovedan,
