So, you've probably heard that the Flaming Lips are known for their fun, wild, insane, inexplicable, awe-inspiring and generally highly entertaining live show. Animal suits, lead singer Wayne Coyne in a bubble walking on the crowd, that kind of thing.
But why just hear about it? Well sir, you can see it for yourself in a little over a month, specifically August 18 at the Fox Theater in Pomona. Stardeath and White Dwarfs (that's one band name, yes) and Ghostland Observatory open. $42, with a presale tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (password is “MARS”) and a public on-sale this Saturday at 10 a.m. Online tickets include downloads of: three new, unreleased tracks; three b-sides and “live audio recording from the tour.” (Kind of) free stuff! Neat!
Also hitting downtown P-town: NYC band Elefant (remember their song “Misfit”? maybe?) on August 8 at the Glass House. $20, on sale tomorrow at noon.
Right about now is the time when I would link to the video of the Flaming Lips from 90210 many years ago, but it seems as if the evidence has disappeared from the Internet. Shame. “I'm not a big fan of alternative music, but these guys rocked the house!”
