Dawes

At this point, it’s safe to say that Northridge natives Dawes are no strangers to the realm of indie rock residencies. Blending sentimental, acoustic introspection, pop sensibilities and a fist full of harmonies, Dawes has carted their sound from coast to coast, expanding their California fan-base in front of crowds great and small. Though their slow, smoldering sounds can lull you into a sleepy sense of comfort, they still know how to keep a person on their toes. Maybe that explains why they’re opening their August residency at Detroit Bar with the screaming ballistics of LA’s the Yelling. For one thing, the two bands sound nothing alike—it’s like blending fire and ice water. But the play between folk rock crooning and boot-stomping jams is sure to offer the kind of eclectic, aural sensation that’ll make you stand up and take notice. Plus we hear they’ve got some “very special guests” coming to pique your interest.
