Scrabble Tournament

You thought using proper word placement in journalism was tricky? Try Scrabble. Sure, not knowing the value of words can make it tough to find a job as a journo. But at least you don’t have to shoulder the embarrassment of an opponent sinking a triple word score on your ass. At the Neighborhood Cup in Aliso Viejo, Sunday Scrabble has morphed into a way of life for some of its most dedicated wordsmiths. Even if you’re a beginner looking to improve your game, this is a great place to learn. Club 350, founded by Director Gary Moss (let’s just call him “The Tile Master”), is a lively gang of competitive Scrabble players that typically gather in Laguna Woods to sharpen their vocab-connecting skills this board game classic. But every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month, it’s on at The Cup where competitive Scrabbaholics gather ‘round for an old-fashioned tile throw down. Aww yeah.

Second and Third Sunday of every month, 1 p.m.; Fourth and Last Sunday of every month, 1 p.m., 2008
