South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa is generally known as a center of opulent consumption, but a display opening their Saturday will ultimately help many who have no business shopping there.
Canstruction, which features 10 large sculptures architects and designers have assembled out of cans of food, will be on view Sept. 5-27 throughout the Costa Mesa shopping mall (which, an official there once corrected me, is “not a shopping mall but a shopping experience“).

When the pieces have finished dazzling shoppers and the help minding
their kids, the canned goods that were used to create the sculptures
will be donated to the Orange County Food Bank.
