'Fame Kills' Killed; Kanye West and Lady Gaga Scrap Tour

From the “well, you kind of had to see this coming” department: Kanye West and Lady Gaga have canceled their much-publicized, co-headlining “Fame Kills” tour, which was to stop at Anaheim's Honda Center on November 15. (Yes, surely a lot of people are going to be using “'Fame Kills' Killed.” Who could resist?)

Here's the full text of the (brief) official Live Nation announcement:

Los Angeles, CA (October 1, 2009) – Live Nation announced today that the Kanye West and Lady Gaga “Fame Kills” tour has been cancelled. This includes the Honda Center show on November 15th and the Staples Center date on November 16th.

Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Tickets purchased online and via phone will be refunded automatically.

It's easy to speculate what might be up with the cancellation. The obvious guess for something this big to get unilaterally scrapped is low ticket sales (no idea if that's the case here), but given the Taylor Swift Incident (TM) and Kanye's reactions the next day on the otherwise-abysmal Jay Leno Show, where he indicated a desire to take some time away from the spotlight, it could very well have more to do with West's current psyche.

Timing-wise, the whole thing was unfortunate, and probably had a lot to do with the official announcement being delayed even though dates and venues had been floating around online for a while. It basically seemed like a tour that was cursed from the start. Still, kind of disappointing. For whatever you might think of Kanye, his live shows are pretty awesome, and Lady Gaga certainly seems to bring it to her own performances (she died at the VMAs after all. That's commitment!).
