Chinese master action film director John Woo, who achieved cult status with Dip huet seung hung (The Killer) before taking on Face/Off, Mission: Impossible II and other American projects, makes a special appearance at the West Coast premiere of his new film Chi bi (Red Cliff) Thursday night at Regency South Coast Village Theatre.

The screening, which is presented by the Orange County Film Society, is the spotlight event of Ancient Paths, Modern Voices: A Festival Celebrating Chinese Culture that has come to OC courtesy of an unprecedented partnership between Carnegie Hall, the Segerstrom Foundation and South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. The festival includes an array of artistic and cultural events, including a re-creation of the famous Ping-Pong Diplomacy matches.
The screening begins at 8 p.m. at the theater, 1561 W. Sunflower Ave., Santa Ana. Variety entertainment writer Justin Chang moderates the audience Q&A with Woo. Here is the flier:
