It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Checkpoint

I know you: knowing that the smokies will be out in force New Year's Eve, you'll get your drink on tonight, thinking you'll avoid the long arm of Johnny Law when you stupidly decide to get behind the wheel after hours of imbibing.

Dumb move.

The Costa Mesa Police Department is getting a jump on New Year's toasting (and the toasted) by conducting a sobriety/driver
license checkpoint from 6 p.m. to midnight tonight on northbound Santa Ana Avenue
at 18th Street.

This is Costa Mesa PD's second checkpoint associated with California's “18 Day Holiday DUI Crackdown Campaign.” Law enforcement agencies will have deployed 300 DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints statewide by the time the campaign concludes on Jan. 3, 2010.

Funding for the special enforcement strategy comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
