Despite Being Underrepresented, Female DJs Say There's No Crying in EDM
Last night the Dutch Swedish sexpots Rebecca & Fiona came to Dim Mak Studios in Hollywood to celebrate their Ultra Records album release of “I Love You, Man” alongside EDC Discovery Project winner Singularity. Steve Aoki was also there doing shots for his latest video with crazily dressed fans and artist in a cab across the Hollywood streets all night long. Fans of all ages filled the little venue (only the back room was open) and swarmed the dance floor. The event was 18 and older, but the bar was also filled with legal drinkers–industry folks and a mix of EDM celebs like EC Twins to Peacetreaty.
OC native Singularity opened the show with an hour-long set filled with everything from glitch hop, moombahton, electro and dubstep. Playing tracks like Calvin Harris & Ne-Yo's “Let's Go” and Nero's “Crush On You,” Singularity did an amazing job at warming up the crowd and getting everyone dancing to his unique sound. He also made sure to work in some definite crowd pleasers like Knife Party's “Centipede,” as he sang along to the lyrics and danced on stage to the hard hitting bass lines. It's no question why he was chosen to play the Discovery Stage at Electric Daisy Carnival and why his Facebook fans went from 1,000 to 11,877 overnight.

When Rebecca Scheja and Fiona Fitzpatrick took the stage they brought an intense amount of energy to the packed Dim Mak Studios. The giant cubes and LED wall surrounding them displayed different colors and shapes as the music changed speeds and tempo. They played catchy, heavily beat-oriented songs with vocals that that the girls sang along to with such emotion and hand gestures you couldn't help but feel what they were feeling (Which was probably just really tipsy from all the drinks). Though they played songs produced by Rebecca's boyfriend Adrian Lux like “Burning” they still rocked the show hard with party anthems like Swedish House Mafia's “Atom.”
Rebecca & Fiona's set was filled with fun party vibes that screamed “I don't give a f*ck we can play just as hard as all the boys.” They carefully spliced songs like Deadmau5's “The Veldt” (the Tommy Trash remix of course) with hits like Tonite Only's “We Run The Night” which made the crowd go crazy on the dance floor. The fact that the girls were wild on stage (Rebecca lifted her shirt like she was going to flash the audience while Fiona chugged her beer until it was empty) also help set the party mood. At one point Rebecca came to the front of the stage to hug fans and take pictures and then stage dived into the crowd! They closed out their set with their hit collaboration with Kaskade “Turn It Down” and proved that they are more than just a pretty face with skills on the decks.
Personal Bias: I'm all for female DJs and producers who dress hot (they only shop at the Goodwill) and know how to party!

Overheard in the Crowd: “I'm one step down from a club kid,” says a girl dressed like a Japanese Harajuki doll/magician.
Random Notebook Dump: It was rumored Eric Prydz was going to show up as they had been tweeting in Swedish all day, but he was a no-show.
