ORIGINAL POST, Sept. 18, 2:22 p.m.: Sixteen months after he allegedly murdered 32-year-old Long Beach resident Steven Brown, Emmanuel Walker was sentenced this morning to 15 years to life in prison for his murder. The crime not only ended the life of Brown, but also Walker's budding career as a snitch for the Long Beach Police Department, which, as the Weekly first revealed last year, repeatedly used him to purchase pot from various medical marijuana dispensaries.

UPDATE, Sept. 19, 9:10 a.m.: During his sentencing hearing, Walker denied any involvement in Brown's murder, claiming that he “loved him like a brother.” The judge wasn't impressed, and neither was Brown's mother, Kathy Windom. In a statement she read aloud yesterday, she charged Walker with murdering her son because Brown was trying to end a relationship with Walker's sister.
Here it is in its entirety:
There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of my son Steven Gerard Brown. I miss his laugh, his smile, his hugs and him saying I love you mom with a kiss on the cheek. Steven's children miss him dearly along with his brothers and one sister. Steven was a decent man who cared for all he came in contact with.
He always loved children his own and those in the neighborhood and took special care to make sure they were safe and not hungry, anyone's child. He would give you the shirt off of his back if someone needed it and I know because I had to keep buying him new clothes. Steven was a very social person. He could converse with the best of them from the oldest to the youngest person, to the educated and most of all to the street folks. All walks of life Steven could hang with.
Yet he chose to live in the streets and with all of his friends. Steven shared his love. He had many female friends not girlfriends. He would decide what area in town he wanted to be in and stay with that woman there. Then he met Denise Wilson who wanted more. She thought Steven was hers and no one else's. This was not my son. I guess you'd call him, like the song “a rolling stone and wherever he laid his hat was his home.”
Again my son was a decent man, he had to be. If this was not true Walker your sister would not have dated him or even wanted him back so bad after he left her. When you moved in Steven was so happy because it was his chance to leave her for good. Denise Wilson went to where Steven was staying and caused such a scene that Steven had to leave with her just to keep the peace and that was his biggest mistake he ever made, because Denise brought him straight to the two of you. Emmanuel Walker her half brother and to Raymond Dizadare a complete stranger you only knew for two weeks.
To Dizadare, you have perpetuated a lie before this court. You are more able then disabled and everyone who knows you knows this is true. So shame on you Mr. Dizadare. How could you hurt my son Steven like you did? You did not even know him or the people you helped to do this.
To Walker, there is no help for you. There in no amount of anger management classes in this lifetime to help you with your hair trigger temper. You are cunning and conniving. I am glad that your nephew was not bullied out of turning you in. Your judgment here on this Earth will not be enough for what you have done to my family and the judgment here on Earth will not compare to the judgment you both will receive from God Almighty.
Your honor, all I ask is that you give Walker and Dizadare what they deserve. I want justice for my son and for my family.
