[UPDATED with Ex-Veep's “Arrest”:] Dick Cheney Greeted by Protesters at Nixon Library

UPDATE, SEPT. 8, 9:56 A.M.: As Dick Cheney was lauding his profound role in Bush administration wars on terror, the Geneva Convention and the U.S. Constitution before a polite Nixon Library crowd Wednesday evening, he was “arrested.”

Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans rose from her chair in the East Room, brandished an “arrest warrant” and informed the former vice president that he is under citizen's arrest for the very activities he's boasting about during his speaking tour and in his new book, In My Time.

As Evans tried to spit out over the jeering crowd of 750 who paid $75 apiece for their chairs that Cheney is an international war criminal who undermined the U.S. economy, made citizens less safe and killed a million people, she was escorted out of the museum.

Another Code Pinko, Sharon Tipton, shouted out that Cheney was a “war profiteer”–and she quickly received the same treatment, prompting the Man of the Hour to mutter “play time” before displaying previously unseen diplomacy toward his critics.

“There is nothing more important than the right of people to express
their opinions,” he told the crowd as his daughter/inquisitor Liz Cheney appeared frozen in time. “Their freedom to speak is
guaranteed by the Constitution.”

The Orange County Register posted video of slivers of the spectacle.

Cheney had begun his folksy appearance by inviting everyone in the room to swing by his Google Maps-censored residential fortress in Wyoming. It's unclear whether that invite also applied to the 100 Code Pink members and other protesters outside who toted “War Criminal” signs or wore orange jumpsuits with black head coverings to mimic those subjected to “enhanced interrogation.”

Speaking of waterboarding, Cheney told those lapping up his every word that the U.S. only used that internationally recognized form of human torture on three people, and that everything the U.S. did to terror suspects under his watch had previously been done to American personnel.

There, don't you feel better?

“It is appalling
that Dick Cheney is making millions off of a book full of lies,” co-founder Medea Benjamin says in a Code Pink statement. “We believe war criminals like
Cheney should be held accountable.”

ORIGINAL POST, SEPT. 7, 10:09 A.M.: Caught Frontline's “Top Secret America” last night about the role of the intelligence community and the Bush administration in the build-up and follow-through to our adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two takeaways:

1) Since every decision-maker is either interviewed on camera or represented in video shot at the time, it will be tough to make the worn-out accusations of liberal bias by PBS.

B) Dick Cheney: what an asshole.

I mean, if you want to lay the blame at the feet of anyone for turning gold (the CIA-led small, secret and successful war to wipe out al Qaeda in Afghanistan) into merde (Operation Desert Fuck-ups), it is Cheney.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition of peace groups that have never met a war they liked puts it more strongly: “Protest Dick Cheney! War Criminals to Jail!” is the title of their notification of a protest tonight to greet the former veep's scheduled appearance at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda.

Cheney, whose cyborg heart pumps baby tears through his titanium veins, is currently traveling the country and Fox News sycophanilia to pimp a memoir espousing the “correctness” of the
Bush administration's invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, use of torture, gutting of civil liberties and targeting of Arab and Muslim communities in the U.S.

“We must not let these war criminals show their faces without a fight,” reads statement from the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, which includes the Orange County Peace Coalition. “Join us to say: Jail Bush administration officials! End the wars now!”

The hijinx begin at 6 p.m. at the place the kids call “The Dick,” 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd. (the corner of Yorba Linda Boulevard and Eureka Avenue), Yorba Linda.

And, just so you know that A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition is an equal opportunity pisser in the punch bowl, they've also scheduled an anti-war protest outside a Sept. 26 re-election fundraiser at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip starring President Barack Obama. “We demand money for people's needs, not war!” reads the announcement.
