It must be a South County thing. A few weeks ago, Aliso Niguel High School held a fund-raiser that brought together a roster of restaurants for its 5th Annual Taste of Aliso Niguel.
This week, Capo Valley High School in Mission Viejo is hosting a similar event, a so-called “Taste of Capo,” Thursday, Oct. 20 at the high school (26301 Via Escolar, Mission Viejo) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with food tastings from about 20 different eating establishments.

The cost of admission is $15 for advance tickets ($20 at the door) and
entitles you to tastes from, yes, a few chains such as Chili's, Jersey
Mike's and Chik-fil-A, but also local eateries, including Celinda's
Mexican Food, Delizie and Yama Sushi On the Lake.
The impetus here is the same as it was at Aliso Niguel: to “provide financial support for projects and
facilities, answering the challenge of reduced public-school funding,”according to the organization's mission statement.
No, the event won't rival the Taste of Newport or any of those other
for-profit food fests. You'd be silly to expect it to.
A commenter who wrote on the Taste of Aliso Niguel post I published [Gustavo note: one of our many skinhead commentators!] put it best when he asked, “How many of *you* had a *high school fund-raiser*
this chichi or requiring this level of organization? We were lucky to
be able to put together a car wash or bake sale and strained our
capacities to the limit with the annual Key Club car rally at my
affluent but 714 HS.”
