Forty is the new one hundred at the legendary annual celebration of kitschy, rustic and old-timey out in the canyons where men are men and women are women and horses are in the front yard and the folk play live folk and blues music under the oaks and sycamores of the Santa Ana range. At this four-decades old Woodstock meets Comstock country-style fair, arts and crafts festival and un-parade, the locals dress up like great-grandpa and great-grandma…so you don’t have to! Rustic, sure, but the miners, cowmen, floozies, fake gunslingers and real Indians donate all monies raised at this here revisionist history wing-ding to the local public library, which holds the archives of the actual history of this fascinating and unique land of waves of mineral exploitation, equestrianism, alternative lifestyle and, lately, environmental stewardship. So giddy up already.
