The Big Bear Observation Post blog heralded December's naming of Alan Hostetter as La Habra's police chief with an item titled, “Federal Military/Prison-Industrial Complex Mole Slinks into Orange County.”
After eight months on the job–and not having been in his office since May–Hostetter is now slinking out of the working-class town.

A city official confirms Hostetter has taken a disability retirement effective Aug. 26, and that David Hinig took over as interim chief on July 12.
When he was lured away from Fontana in December, Hostetter was hailed as a believer in community policing and building relationships with residents. So, where did Big Bear Observation Post get off with the federal military/prison-industrial complex mole” stuff?

He has written articles on mentoring, training of first line supervisors and law enforcement wellness and fitness programs, with his articles being published in nationally and internationally distributed law enforcement journals.
