A Santa Ana man has been arrested in the beating death of a drummer whose body was found around the corner from the Doll Hut, the Anaheim venue where his punk band was scheduled to perform.
As a result, Wednesday night’s gig by the Knightenders turned into a tribute show for its fallen member, 48-year-old David Patrick McCabe of Dana Point.
That same afternoon, the Anaheim Police Department arrested Arthur Williams, 34, of Santa Ana, at an area hospital for McCabe’s death. Williams was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder and held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail, according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt, the APD spokesman.
Meanwhile, police are still searching for McCabe’s car, which was stolen after he was killed. The APD released the photo at left of the gray, four-door 2013 Toyota Corolla with California license plate No. 6YSH330.
A passerby discovered McCabe’s body in an industrial cul-de-sac in the 1500 block of West Center Street about 3 a.m. Saturday and called police, who determined the victim died from “blunt force trauma injuries.”
Little more has been released on how police connected Williams to McCabe.
“Detectives have confirmed McCabe and Williams were acquaintances, but will not discuss the motive for the crime,” Wyatt says in a statement. “Williams’ booking photo will not be released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.”
Anyone who has seen the Toyota or has information on the slaying is asked to contact detectives via Orange County Crime Stoppers–even anonymously–at 855.TIP.OCCS or www.occrimestoppers.org.
