There will be a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in Anaheim tonight, so you better watch out. According to the Anaheim Police Department (who helpfully provided us this information in the hopes that we might publish it, for those of you in the comments section endlessly wondering why we print such things), the PD will set up the checkpoint on Euclid Street at Cerritos Avenue from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
“The deterrent and preventive effects of DUI checkpoints make them a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes,” states an Oct. 10 news release from the Anaheim PD. “Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely. DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.”
Those arrested for DUI can look forward to possible jail time, classes, fines and other expenses that can total $10,000 or more. For undocumented immigrants who find themselves in the checkpoint, the consequences can be far worse.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Very good that you publish this information . People who drink and drive should know that this will save lives.
I feel it would be a whole lot smarter if the police DID NOT let people know when they are having a check point. They would catch a lot more of the serious offenders.
