Art Alexakis founded Everclear in Portland in 1991, and the singer-songwriter-guitarist is the alternative rock band’s only original member.
But via Sun Songs, Alexakis’ new solo album that came out Monday on The End Records/BMG, he says he was able to explore new sounds, styles and even lyrical subjects than he has been able to do with his storied band.
“For the most part, it’s an acoustic singer-songwriter type of album,” Alexakis explains. “It’s not about making another Everclear record; it’s about doing something that’s just me.”
It will be just Alexakis on Friday, when he plays at The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa.
It’s part of a solo tour that will have taken him to San Diego the night before, on to Chico the night after, throughout the U.S. through January 18, after which he will move on to Australia for a couple months before returning to Modesto in March. (Full details at everclearmusic.com/tour.)
