After taking a break from performing in the U.S. for over five years, Italian mezzo-soprano opera singer Cecilia Bartoli is ready for a comeback. Her three-city California tour, which includes Costa Mesa as a stop, revisits her recital days here in the 1990s. Though chiefly known for her vocal interpretations of Mozart and Rossini, she’ll be singing Baroque music and replicating the singing style of castrati — that is, when male singers are castrated to preserve their childish voices. Given her ability to nail both soprano and mezzo roles, Bartoli is expected to mime the versatility of castrati (which will include slow arias and pyrotechnic arias) with A-list grace.
