Sandcastles— they're not just made by kids anymore. With the right amount of skill and patience, anyone can build a majestic kingdom worthy of being deemed art. Now in its 83rd year, the two-day Long Beach Sand Sculpture Music and Art Festival will feature impressive feats of sand architecture by professionals, with the process laid bare for all to see; around night time, the sculpture will be lit for guests to observe in the dark. A community competition allows hopefuls a chance to win $500 for their winning sand sculpture. And of course, plenty of musical performances by Johnny Love, The Originalites, and Skunkdub, as well as art and vendor booths to check out. Proceeds of the event go towards benefitting Long Beach's LGBT non-profit The Center.
