A therapist’s office in Fullerton became the scene of a deadly police shooting yesterday morning. Around 7:34 a.m., Fullerton police received the first of two 9-1-1 calls alerting them to a woman armed with a knife. The second came from a therapist who told dispatchers that a patient had just stabbed her.
Police responded to the 1600 block of East Chapman Avenue immediately within minutes. By that time, the suspect barricaded herself with the therapist in her office near the corner of Chapman and Acacia Avenue. Details are slim after that. Authorities say two officers barged in and opened fire after confronting the woman armed with a knife.
When paramedics arrived, they declared the suspect dead at the scene. Police describe the 40-year-old therapist as having wounds consistent with being attacked with a knife. She was transported to a local trauma center for treatment of non-life threatening wounds.
Another patient identified the therapist as Jacki Stevens, a licensed clinical social worker, to KNBC-TV Channel 4 news reporter Vikki Vargas. The deceased suspect has yet to be identified by the Orange County Coroner’s office.
The Orange County’s District Attorney’s office is investigating the incident. Check back in about a year or so to find out why the officer-involved shooting was justified.
In the meantime, Fullerton police released the following photo of the knife recovered on scene.

My sister wanted to die and was sort of pushed in this direction when feeling suicidal. She had past attempts. She had no healthy family and just broke free from years of a dv extreme marriage and betrayal of our mother for her money by helping my ex in law. He was just married and new wifey didn’t want to pay the alimony he had to. It’s all too convenient as she is sending messages she was so distraught she wanted to die.
Oh I’m who reported the abuse amd neglect we all went through and the impact on 5 girls, now 4 woman living. I will continue to honor my sisters life by the truth and that my sister is with our grandma and not in pain anymore. This and ensuring the story of what we went through at the hands of this monster pat who literally tried to use this for money gain and was stopped by me exposing her first- now my oldest sister is living on the streets in orange asking for help to rent a room w her two dogs. I’m very sad that the family is a mess and yet I can only choose my own health and sharing our story and holding pat accountable is what matters vs blaming the system that tried to help her. Thank you Fullerton PD. The truth – It honors Katherine.
