The recent passing of modern dance legend Donald McKayle is still leaving many of us reeling, especially since at the age of 87 and wheelchair bound, McKayle was still mentoring dance students at UC Irvine where he served as professor emeritus of dance. To honor the trailblazing giant, dancers from the UCI Etude Ensemble (which McKayle founded in 1995) will perform a trio of his works from his lengthy, six decade career, with a memorial service, video presentation and reception to follow. Witness McKayle’s dance proteges’ heartfelt tribute to the iconic choreographer/director, and learn more about the ways in which his approach to teaching and choreography showcased a passion that was larger than life.
