Ever heard of a book installation? If you’ve wandered to LA’s the Last Bookstore, you’ve probably encountered their stunning towers and sculptures made entirely of books. Artist Mike Stilkey takes his installations to the next level and adds lifelike paintings to the mix. The current show at the OC Great Park’s Palm Court Complex houses a retrospective of Stilkey’s work, featuring his amazing book walls— made from recycled, reclaimed books of course— decorated with paintings made by colored pencil, paint, lacquer and ink, and illustrate scenes of whimsy and fantasy. His work has been all over the world including Switzerland, Italy, and China, so stop by and marvel at this art that literally speaks in volumes.
Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.; Thursdays, Fridays, noon. Starts: Feb. 6. Continues through April 10, 2016
(Expired: 04/10/16)
