Modern art is tricky. Interpretations of any single piece can range from judging it as “the shit” to just plain “shitty.” In Yasmina Reza’s 1998 Tony Award-winning Best Play Art, three long time friends contemplate an outrageously expensive modern painting with three wildly different results. Spoiler alert: turns out the “painting” is actually just a blank canvas and the differing interpretations are really insights into each man’s psyche. One time we went to a museum and saw a modern art sculpture that looked stunningly akin to a giant cow patty with an artificial flower sticking out of it. Commentary on our soul? You be the judge.
