It's a sad truth about the human condition that sometimes it takes really bad things to happen before positive change can occur. Witness Kelly Thomas—unarmed, schizophrenic and homeless—beaten to death by Fullerton police near the famed Slidebar. Were it not for the outpouring of public anger, his story may have been lost in the bureaucratic shuffle. But the anger came, and the gears of government are slowly shifting—for now. Celebrate the civic spirit at “Art with an Agenda,” presented by the PÄS Gallery, featuring original works from more than 30 local artists inspired by the life and unnecessary death of Thomas. Come bear witness to the work of those who continue to keep his memory alive.
