Dennis Holland, the old salt who for years has been restoring the historic wooden ship The Shawnee in front of his Newport Beach home, has apparently reached an agreement with the city that will spare him major fines for code violations and keep the sandpaper sanding. The solution?

Move the tub to Holland's backyard.
That will be no small feat in itself, as the 1916 ketch will have to be taken apart and then reassembled out back, away from neighbors' disapproving eyes.
Holland had received a permit from the city in 2006 to perform the restoration of the 76-foot Victorian craft at home, but it expired last year, subjecting the retiree to mounting daily fines.
