Baja Chefs to Appear at Playa

So you want to eat the things we write about in our ¡Tijuana Sí! column, but you don't have a passport or have convinced yourself that we're taking our lives in our hands by going down south of the border (despite nothing remotely bad having happened to us in all those visits)?

Fine. Go to Los Angeles instead.

Playa, the Los Angeles restaurant run by John Sedlar–an absolutely
outstanding chef–will play host to a series of pop-ups by the luminaries
of the Baja California culinary scene.

It starts off on Sunday through Tuesday, September 16-18, when Sabina
Bandera of Ensenada's famed street cart to the stars, La Guerrerense,
will be cooking. We haven't written Sabina up on Tijuana Sí yet–that's coming very, very soon–but suffice it to say it's the best ceviche you'll ever have, and she works from a street cart in Ensenada, quite possibly the best street cart I've ever been to.

Future engagements will be Benito Molina of Ensenada's Manzanilla (Sep.
23-25) and Tacos Kokopelli from Tijuana (Sep. 30-Oct. 2).

Reservations can be made by calling Playa at 323-933-5300; the restaurant is located at 7360 Beverly Blvd. (between Fairfax and La Brea) in Los Angeles.
