With kids quickly losing interest in anything you thought was fun when you were young, it's a relief to see that organizations such as the Cub Scouts are still involved in activities like the racing of traditional pinewood derby cars. The cars are shaped by hand by the Cub Scouts themselves-with the help of a saw and maybe a dad or scoutmaster or two. Pinewood Derby Cars have to meet strict standards of weight and dimension in order to be raced, but the vehicles on exhibit have no restrictions. One car is shaped exactly like a pencil-and is rumored to be pretty fast, too. “Pine Design: Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Cars” features more than 50 custom cars by scouts and a couple of scoutmasters from the Boy Scouts of Fullerton and La Habra. To be honest, we're just glad they're shaping, painting and racing cars that don't require batteries while their peers are pounding away at PlayStations and watching Pikachu zap the latest semi-cuddly enemy.
