A few weekends ago a friend and I spent Sunday afternoon biking through the Venice Beach boardwalk chaos. It was 80 degrees without a cloud in the sky. Masses of people—tourists, Eastside LA denizens, their mothers and grandmothers—congregated between Santa Monica and Venice’s piers. The smell of burned cannabis was constant. Roided-out guys pumped iron at Muscle Beach and mobs of beachgoers surrounded choreographed hip-hop dancers, while acrobats hogged the sandy gymnastic rings near the famous Ferris Wheeled pier.
The conditions were ideal for people watching. They weren’t so great for avoiding sun exposure, however. By the time we got back to my friends house, our skin was as crispy as Kettle chips. But because my skin’s naturally loaded with melanin, I wasn’t in as much pain as I was he was. An outline of my friend’s tank top was sun stamped on his skin, leaving him with a lobster-red neck and shoulders. He was definitely going to peel and look like a red crustacean for a week.
I remembered hearing that CBD salve worked wonders on burns. But did that also include sunburns? We put it to the test—he was my science experiment. I had FlavRx’s CBD salve in my purse and had him apply a thick lather onto his sunburned skin around 9pm. The spearmint essential oil not only provided a great scent but it also added a cooling sensation to his burns. The ointment tingled; he could feel it providing nourishment to scorched epidermis.
He applied a thick, second coat of balm right before he went to bed. When he woke up the next morning he was no longer the mascot for Red Lobster. His skin didn’t hurt, nor did it peel. You could still see the outline of his tank top, but instead of being fire engine-red, it was a light pink. The day after that, you could barely see the burn.
To say my friend’s a believer in CBD is an understatement. If he could start a church that worships the power of CBD he would, thanks to this FlavRx experience. Sun burns won’t ever be the same.
