Located in Old Towne Orange, the store’s staff is friendly and well-informed, the selection of books thorough, and all of the bread-and-butter stuff that actually makes money (statues, toys, etc.) thoughtfully stocked. But what brings us back is the discount trade bin. With no more room left in our dingy apartment for those pesky white boxes housing our collection, we now avoid single issues and look to the paperback compilations. Big Red offers them at better-than-reasonable discounts; a recent haul included copies of Brian K. Vaughan’s Ex Machina, one of countless iterations of X-Men; J.M. DeMatteis’ Blood: A Tale; and several compilations of Grant Morrison’s run of JLA. Our geekery was satiated without putting us in the poorhouse.
