The 2-year-old Taco Asylum is known for its meat. There's beef tongue, braised pulled pork, fried chicken, lobster, pancetta—and let's not forget the locally sourced rabbit that a few months back won the unwanted attention of the Animal Liberation Front, which staged a ham-fisted “action” at the upscale eatery that accomplished little more than starting an FBI investigation. We at the Weekly wish to take nothing away from the carnivorous treats offered here when we say that the fried green tomato appetizer, thin slices of green tomato crusted in cornmeal and served with a spicy cayenne aioli sauce, is the best non-meaty treat you'll find in Orange County that also goes down great with an IPA.
