The owner-activists at Laguna’s Gallery of Contemporary Art have organized showings by vigorously pro-humanitarian artists. So you may not know much about art but will be won over before even seeing the work on display, and for sale, just now 'Blocks of Time' by local OC painter, woodworker and all-around materials repurposer Heather Roth, who effortlessly navigates high and low, from her commercially available whimsy at Salvage Design to gorgeous fine art with purposeful politics and a perfect artistic through-line. Here, it’s reclaimed wood meets vintage quilt imagery, in the idiom of a rustic Americana woodblocks lexicon, with layers of memory, history, faded color and textures of perspective evoking a traditionally woman-define cultural medium. All sales and a raffle benefit The Peace Exchange, a project that serves women and their families in Congo through sewing workshops.
