Jokes about race and culture—whether self-directed, light-hearted or downright offensive—are kind of like “Easy Comedy 101,” meaning the subject is a go-to source for a cheap laugh, either at your own expense or someone else’s. We’re not saying this brand of humor can’t be funny, just that it’s a tricky one to nail without looking like a complete jerk. Fortunately, producer of the Improv’s Slanted Comedy, Mike Abara (aka Black Mike) is joining comedic forces with funny man Luis Bunuelos to bring us Blow Out Comedy. Promoting racial acceptance and harmony, Blow Out Comedy “is all about togetherness in learning each others’ culture to better our world with love, peace, and laughter.” Sound a little “kumbaya” for your taste? Perhaps—but we’re willing to bet you laugh your ass off anyway.
