What’s up in the world of this brekkie fan’s favorite meal of the day? A whole lot, if you know where to look. Expansion is key, as we report on a trio of tasty delights throughout OC.
S’wich Bistro – Irvine
Better known as one of our top five restaurants last year, the hardworking crew at S’wich recently began doing the thing we’d been crossing our fingers for from the start: opening on the weekends. On Saturdays, you can now enjoy one of the best breakfast burritos in the county (in my opinion), along with a few other drool-worthy bites. Their chill patio is perfect for dining when you want to avoid the usual menus from neighborhood plazas. 16277 Laguna Canyon Rd., (949) 753-0227; www.swichbistro.com.
KoJa Kitchen – Tustin
In March, this Bay Area-based brand began serving Japanese soufflé pancakes on the weekends. While you won’t see it prominently advertised on their social media, posters in their windows state otherwise. It may be because these are so time-consuming for them to prepare? If that’s the case, be sure to order one of their new musubis to tide you over. Pictured is the matcha pancake plate. 2943 El Camino Real, (657) 859-6475; www.kojakitchen.com.
Eggslice – Costa Mesa
What began as a pop-up inside PIE-NOT grew to a residency inside Shuck at The OC Mix. Previously open a few days a week, as of April 1st, they’re now churning out delightful egg-wiches Wednesday through Sunday mornings! This is not a joke, despite the announcement date. It’s all about that chilli jam condiment, so you may need to wash it down with organic cold brew or fresh squeezed OJ– both of which they offer. 3313 Hyland Ave, (714) 357-6272; www.eggslice.com.
