It might sound a tad dirty, but the soft opening of Cal State Fullerton’s contemporary art exhibit on Saturday is actually a big, warm reception. It’s a huge retrospective celebrating the enduring work of that passionate organ of downtown Santa Ana’s art scene, with 200 exhibitions, work by 35 artists-in-residence and a display of catalogs from the Grand Central Art Center’s in-house press. A success story in educational partnership with municipal government, you can see the Center’s story in the art of Mark Ryden, Jeffrey Vallance, Robert Williams and Extremo the Clown. This pre-official opening is, of course, also all about soliciting your devotion and currency—hard, thank you, but tax deductible—to support this local arts resource for ten more wonderful years.
