“Use a pliable material to mold or cast a body part.” “Describe a dream that you have the week of December 22.” “Use your favorite color and some form of new technology.” These, among many others, were the instructions given to a group of artists selected for the experimental “Directions” exhibit. For one year, artists followed detailed steps and met time-specific deadlines given to them by curator Jeffrey Crussell. Identities were kept confidential and discussion of the project was strictly prohibited; the result hoped to be a wholly unique procedure free from the effects of outside influences. The final artwork is now on display at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art—and all the mystery has been unveiled.
Thursdays-Sundays, noon. Starts: Aug. 2. Continues through Aug. 29, 2009
