There are basically two kinds of Pink Floyd fans: Syd Barrett lovers and those who appreciate the more commercially successful work of Roger Waters and David Gilmour. For the latter camp comes Alan Parker's The Wall, the cinematic adaptation of Pink Floyd's grandiose rock opera about social alienation, celebrity worship, war, sex, drugs and pretty much every other issue that can pop up in the mind out of nowhere and ruin an otherwise-excellent trip. Deftly intertwining freak-out animation with bleak, 1984-esque mise-en-scene, The Wall tells the story of the ups and downs of rock star Pink (portrayed by Live Aid mastermind and Boomtown Rat Bob Geldof). Animation aside, leave the kids at home. They'll have plenty of opportunities to discover this freaky masterpiece on their own.
