Often referred to as “The First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald’s crystal-clear vocals earned her a whopping 14 Grammy awards and a nod as one of the most influential Jazz vocalists of the century. Laguna Playhouse pays homage to this icon with their musical, Ella, featuring a live jazz combo and 20 of her most famous songs. Set in 1966, Ella (starring Tina Fabrique) depicts the songstress preparing for a concert (jamming with none other than Louie Armstrong) and reflecting on the journey she’s taken—from her troubled childhood and humble beginnings to achieving legendary status.
