In honor of Genocide Prevention Month, some of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations have joined together to launch public-awareness and -education campaigns—and Orange County for Darfur, along with Moving Target Theatre, are doing just that. In an attempt to draw attention to the ongoing African genocide that has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced more than 2.5 million people, the two groups have joined forces to produce acclaimed playwright Winter Miller’s In Darfur—the story of three lives intersecting at a refugee camp in the troubled region of Sudan. With more than 100 people dying each day at the hands of the Sudanese government and its usage of organized starvation, threats against aid workers, rape, violence and displacement, it’s up to us to educate ourselves and do whatever we can to end the tragedy.
