Starting at the end of March every year, during hanami, which literally translates to “flower viewing,” hundreds of Japanese gather at parks, temples and shrines with friends and family to just… enjoy the view. Every Spring, cherry blossom or sakura trees burst and fill the horizon with light pink, almost white clouds composed of thousands of tiny, delicate blossoms. Though the trees are fairly popular throughout Japan, people skip work, school and whatever else just to enjoy hanami, throwing festivals and parties until the sun sets.
