A grumpy old man, a drunken red neck, a slick-talking pimp and a purple alien—these are just some of the characters who’ve had ventriloquist Jeff Dunham’s hand up their ass. For more than two decades now, this Texas-born comic has worked hard to put the magic of ventriloquism back in vogue. And as you may have guessed, it’s been a long, hard road. Until recently, that is. These days, you can’t turn on Comedy Central for ten minutes without seeing his face or the faces of his characters. In 2008, things really got serious when Jeff Dunham’s Very Special Christmas Special was the highest rated telecast in the station’s history, and last month they introduced The Jeff Dunham Show on air, officially solidifying his status of “ventrilogod.” Now, he brings his one-man (and multi-puppet) act to the Honda Center.
