MacArthur genius/bookstore impresario Ruben Martinez meets his match in writer/editor/cultural-arts blogger (“La Bloga”) Daniel Olivas this Saturday when the two meet up at Santa Ana’s literary mecca to introduce contributors to Latinos In Lotusland: An Anthology of Contemporary Southern California Literature . For his groundbreaking collection, Olivas famously put out a call for stories featuring the Los Angeles area in any form, social realism to magical realism, so this sweeping anthology includes everybody and their hermano , with familiar names —John Rechy, Mario Suarez, Helena Viramontes—as well as new voices chronicling experiences and perspectives often overlooked by mainstream publishing. Reading at the Libreria Martinez celebration/reception are OC locals Alejandro Morales and Lisa Alvarez, Angelenos Victorio Barragan and Conrad Romo, Denver novelist Manuel Ramos, with Martinez and Olivas your enthusiastic hosts.
