Lauded as one of today’s most refreshing artists (published in Sketchbook: Conceptual Drawings from the World’s Most Influential Designers ), Mar Hernandez (a.k.a. Malota) seems pretty advanced for her 29 years. Inspired by everything from Samurai Jack cartoons to bowls of soup, Malota has created her own world of flat-faced, two-dimensional beauties who trip the wires of both foreboding enemy and whimsical angel (her custom-made toys should only be given to those not susceptible to creepy-doll nightmares). Her newest collection, “Personajes de Colores: A Strange Cavalcade of Characters,” is a series of fantastical portraits—romantic cartoons dreamt up by a talent of illustration, design and animation.
Thursdays-Sundays, 1 p.m. Starts: Oct. 30. Continues through Nov. 22, 2009
