If watching The Jetsons taught us anything as a society, it’s that robots shouldn’t be trusted. Thankfully, as a society we aren’t technologically advanced enough to have robot-maids running our homes and treating us with sass…yet. That fate is quickly approaching, however, and Santa Ana’s Discovery Science Center recognizes it. Their current exhibit, “Robots and Us,” aims to teach children about technical realities along with the mechanics of robots from science fiction—and begs the important existential questions: Could a machine ever be alive? Should we give machines the capability to experience emotions? And aren’t we humans just a different kind of machine? Educate your children—before it’s too late.
