What’s old is new at the historic Yost Theater, former classic Spanish-language movie palace in downtown Santa Ana, revamped as a community arts center and, now, in time for (weirdly) America’s celebration of Independence Day, a weekend revival film house. Speaking of vamping, the Yost premieres its weekly Saturday midnight movie screenings of the cult camp classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Tim Curry in red lipstick and corset, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostick in their undies. It’s the best comedy-horror rock’n’roll musical about a newly engaged couple whose car breaks down near a castle and are seduced by a mad doctor from the planet Transsexual you will ever see, no matter how many times you’ve seen it. Arrive in full costume for this Rocky-style Fourth of July and you’ll pay half price, no doubt ready to sing along with other charmingly perverse patriots. It’s the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane. Bring toast.
