Can these creative folks knock it off already? When they’re great at one thing, they’ll try something else, and as luck would have it, they’re often pretty great at that, too. Take Devo co-cofunder Mark Mothersbaugh, for example. Being one of the architects of synthpop and new wave just wasn’t enough for him; he’s also an accomplished visual artist. He paints, and hosts the “Mark’s Magic Pictures” drawing segment on wacked-out/created by OC’s Christian Jacobs kids show Yo Gabba Gabba! For decades, he’s been scrawling impressive doodles on postcards while on tour to send out to his family and friends, collectively called “Postcard Diaries.” Of course, the next natural step is to turn those images into rugs (yes), and 12 such works comprise the “Rugs! Rugs! Rugs!” exhibit, stopping at Hibbleton Gallery this month. Opening reception Friday 12/3 at 7 p.m.
Thursdays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Dec. 4. Continues through Dec. 27, 2009
