Nothing screams drunken, disastrous abandon quite like New Year's Eve. Traditionally, the night to devastate your brain cells-and your interpersonal relationships in the process-has broken as many hearts as it has united. But what options do the committed, teetotaling, family types have on this most debauched of holidays? Fullerton's annual First Night festival is a drug- and alcohol-free celebration of new beginnings, featuring African dance troupes, Motown cover bands, a 10-minute fireworks display at midnight, and local roots-rocker James Intveld as the evening's headliner. The events are family-oriented, so you can all let the sitters take the night off to engage in their own immoral activities.
