What do you get when you combine a classic Top 40 song, a creepy tale by a master of thrillers and a director whose credits include This is Spinal Tap? Yes, a mega-hit movie. Taking Stephen King’s words and Ben E. King’s tuneful philosophy, director Rob Reiner introduced the world to the baby faces of River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell—four tweenagers who set out to find the dead body of a missing local boy, hoping the discovery will make them famous. Along the way, they also encounter the menacing Kiefer Sutherland and his band of “Cobras,” who are equally as determined to find the body. If you’ve never seen the 1986 classic Stand by Me (especially on the big screen), make a trip to Seal Beach to see some stars the way they were.
