Emo was a four-letter word long before fucktards such as Pete Wentz permanently relegated the entire genre into Hot Topic oblivion. But if the scene had only one saving grace (and we would argue there was more than one), it was Sunny Day Real Estate. At around the same time Nirvana’s light was burning out, Sunny Day Real Estate released the seminal album Diary, which, though it was prone to histrionic excess, still managed to give the genre an air of credibility. Now, after a long hiatus and prolonged refusal to play California shows, the band appear at the House of Blues in Anaheim. We’ll see if they’ve still got it. Bring a hanky, just in case.
