Alex Grey is definitely what you would call a “thinking man’s artist.” Or at least, a thinking man who considers copious amounts of LSD usage an integral part of defining one’s spiritual belief. Grey, after finding his spirit animal through a series of hallucinogenic trips, continued his quest for knowledge by attending Harvard Medical School and spending five years in the Anatomy department working with cadavers and prepping them for dissection. This, along with working in the school’s department of Mind/Body Medicine, enabled Grey to start his highly-praised “Sacred Mirrors” collection. The series of 21 life-sized paintings depict “the physical and subtle anatomy of an individual in the context of cosmic, biological and technological evolution.” Trippy. Selections from “Sacred Mirrors” will be on display at the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion, along with 300 of Grey’s self-portraits spanning four decades.
